"Myth" is a portrait of an individual whose gender identity is intentionally difficult to discern from a binary lens. The human body is composed of cutouts from two photographs of individuals with traditionally masculine and feminine characteristics. The combination of a cropped hairstyle, a mustache, heavy eye makeup, polished nails, and delicate jewelry pokes fun at the absurd gendering such arbitrary traits. Images of multicolored flowers and budget statistics weave through limbs and cheekbones in order to depict the fluidity of gender expression. The vibrant florals and rosy tones represent femininity, while the dates and calculations symbolize the male-dominated finance field. The visual complexity of the portrait seeks to generate confusion, portray gender identity as multifaceted, and condemn the concept of a gender binary as naively simplistic.
