About the Artist

Can Bora is a Turkish interdisciplinary artist-researcher with a focus on the human body and its senses. He has a background in theatre, contemporary dance, and video art. Can uses his work to explore and challenge existing systems and structures through the materiality of the body. His recent projects deal with important topics such as national identity, hospitality, eroticism, and the speculation of senses. Can believes that the body is a powerful tool for re-examining disciplines and structures. He is passionate about understanding how care, softness, and self-expression are crucial for responsible autonomy, considering that humans are part of a wider ecology. He currently lives and works in Amsterdam. He will participate in Rrreuring Festival in February 2004 at Podium Mozaiek, showcasing a performance and installation concerning the tradition of Henna Night.

About the Artworks

Title: Paper Trails of Belonging (2024)

"Paper Trails of Belonging" is a body-based video art performance that explores the different meanings of migration. Through a collage technique using Chroma Key, Bora embodies various characters to showcase his inner dynamics. The performance creates a dramatic scene where multiple chaotic characters come together, emphasizing the urgency of obtaining a "white sheet of paper" in a world where hope, uncertainty, and violence still coexist but do not allow to for peaceful cohabitation.

Title: Green Glitch (2024)

Green Glitch is the video adaptation of the theater play DreamBazaar, written and performed by Can Bora in Turkey just before the pandemic. It tells the story of Adam who tries to save the last plant on Earth showing the absurdity of human actions on nature. Inspired by Samuel Beckett's work, the performance portrays a world that faces the imminent disruption of its equilibrium caused by global warming. It sheds light on the importance of both addressing global crises and taking care of ourselves and our relationships. Green Glitch has been showed in Fever Festival (Den Haag) and NDSM Tree House (Amsterdam) as a part of the exhibition Art Park.
