Learning of solar drying basics
Activity on solar drying including preparing materials, drying, using several instruments to measure product’s qualities
•Microbiology (Aerobic plate count and agar art)
Aerobic Plate Count (APC):
Knowledge: Define and explain the concept of aerobic plate count (APC) and its significance in assessing microbial quantity in various samples (food, water, cosmetics, etc.).
Skills: Perform serial dilutions, aseptically plate samples, and enumerate colony-forming units (CFUs) using the APC method.
Application: Interpret APC results in the context of established guidelines and evaluate sample quality based on microbial counts.
Agar Art:
Knowledge: Comprehend the basic principles of bacterial growth and colony morphology on agar plates.
Skills: Apply aseptic techniques to streak and inoculate agar plates with designated bacterial strains.
Creativity: Design and create an artistic representation using different colored bacterial colonies on agar plates.
•Environmental Science (utilization of grease from grease trap for clay arts)
Learn how to clean a stinky grease from a grease trap and turn it to valuable ingredient for clay arts.
•Biology (Nature Journaling)
Students will learn how to create images for nature journaling.
They will explore cyanotype, a camera-less photographic process that utilizes light-sensitive chemicals to capture shadows and create images.
•Chemistry (Natural Colorants and their Applications)
