All members of NEL visited 'SEMICON Korea 2026', the largest semiconductor industry exhibition in Korea, held at COEX, Seoul from February 11th to 13th.
During the visit, our researchers explored the latest trends in global semiconductor equipment and materials. It was a valuable opportunity to gain technical insights. NEL will continue to pursue innovative research in line with the rapidly evolving semiconductor ecosystem.

On February 10th, representatives from TSI Inc. USA & Singapore team visited the NEL at SeoulTech for a collaborative research meeting.
During the meeting, the NEL research team presented the final report on the semiconductor process monitoring project, sharing key research achievements and technical milestones.
Following the report, both parties engaged in an in-depth discussion regarding future follow-up projects and strategic directions for further collaboration. NEL will continue to strengthen its industry-academic partnership with TSI to develop innovative solutions in the field of semiconductor process monitoring.

Yusun Lee, Seongmin Cho, and Dong-Bin Kwak attended The 7th International Conference on Manufacturing Process & Technology (ICMPT 2026) held at the Le Meridien Hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, from February 2 to February 5, 2026. Seongmin Cho delivered a presentation entitled “Liquid-borne Particle Measurement with Aerosolization and Data Processing Algorithm.” This work, co-authored with AJ Tiwari, DR Troolin, HG Lee from TSI Inc., focused on advanced metrology techniques for liquid particle detection. Yusun Lee delivered a presentation entitled “Experimental and theoretical analysis of electrostatic effect degradation in respiratory masks under environmental exposure.” This research explored the stability of electrostatic charges in masks when subjected to various environmental conditions.
For their outstanding work, Yusun Lee received an Outstanding Paper Award.

Yusun Lee, Seongmin Cho, and Dong-Bin Kwak attended the 2025 KSMPE Autumn Conference (2025.11.26~2025.11.28) held at the Jeju Grand Hyatt Hotel. During the meeting, Yusun Lee delivered an oral presentation entitled “Analysis of Humidity Dependent Pressure Drop and Performance Changes in Respiratory Mask with and without Electrostatic Charge Effect.” Seongmin Cho delivered an oral presentation entitled “Evaluation of CMP Slurry Hydrosol Size Distributions via Aerosol Metrology and ML Algorithm with NVR Subtraction.”
For their outstanding work, Seongmin Cho received an Excellence Award.

Hyeong-Woo Ji from K-Nano and Yusun Lee, Seongmin Cho, and Seung-Woo Lee from Nanoparticle Engineering Lab participated in StartUp Water 2025 and received the Excellence Award (2025.11.25). Through this achievement, our team has secured KRW 20M in commercialization funding, which will be actively utilized for further technology development and the commercialization of our project.

Nanoparticle Engineering Lab (NEL) has signed a collaboration agreement with Thrusight under the ICC IP-linked Technology Incubation Program, which is part of the RISE (Regional Innovation System & Education) Project (2025.11.21). During the program period, NEL will focus on developing advanced particle collection technologies based on the lab’s core expertise. Through this collaboration, the team aims to accelerate the transfer of innovative nanoparticle engineering technologies to industry and to create new opportunities for commercialization.

Seongmin Cho and Yusun Lee had a technical review meeting at TSI Inc., USA (2025.11.12) to report on Seongmin's research progress.
They also participated in the 68th Semi-Annual CFR Review Meeting, held at the University of Minnesota, USA (2025.11.13~2025.11.14), with support from the international filtration consortium, the Center for Filtration Research (CFR). During the CFR review meeting, Seongmin Cho presented a talk, "First Results of In-line Liquid Nanoparticle Monitoring System with ML-based Data Processing Algorithm: Lab-to-Fab Transition of CMP Slurry Filter Evaluation." Yusun Lee presented on the topic, "Influence of Electrostatic effect and Humidity on Pressure drop and Loading Characteristics of Respiratory Masks".

Dong-Bin Kwak was invited to deliver a lecture at the 9th International Aerosol Workshop organized by Kanomax in Tokyo, Japan (2025.11.06-2025.11.08). In his talk, Prof. Kwak presented the lab’s recent research on aerosol technology, including hydrosol characterization studies carried out by Seongmin Cho. The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to interact with the international aerosol research community and to further strengthen future collaborations. These gatherings are truly invaluable for the field. Beyond the scientific program, the workshop also served as a great opportunity to strengthen the industrial network with Kitai Kang, Dwey Lee, and In Soo Chang, as well as the academic network with Jungho Hwang, Changhyuk Kim, Chris Horgan, Ta-Chih (TC) Hsiao, Takafumi Seto, Kenjiro Iida, Derek Oberreit, and Chenxi Li, etc.

Yusun Lee, Seung-Woo Lee, Chungsup Kim, Seung Jae Gwak, Jaephil Lee, and Dong-Bin Kwak attended the 2025 KAPAR (Korean Association for Particle and Aerosol Research) Conference, held at Mona YongPyong from July 2 to July 4, 2025.
At the conference, Chungsup Kim presented a poster titled "Development of a Delivery Algorithm for Estimating Particle Size Distribution and Pulmonary Deposition Fraction of Conventional and Electronic Cigarettes Based on Aerosolization Mechanisms.", and Sung Jae Gwak presented a poster titled "Predictive model of nanoparticle penetration efficiency through conductive and non-conductive coils in aerosol measurement systems: experimental study and critical review."
For his excellent work, Seung Jae Gwak received the Excellent Poster Presentation Award.
