American Cinema Syllabus

Course Description

The goal of this class is to give students an introduction to influential American films. Students will then use reflection, discussion, analysis, and synthesis to navigate the cultural and societal impact of the films. Some of the guided reflections will be based on the idea of a film reflecting society or influencing American society. We will also be looking at local, national, moral, and demographic issues in the films. Students will also analyze how our culture has changed and what aspects of society are reflected during different periods of the last century.

Textbooks – There is no required textbook for this course. Instead there will be handouts provided by the instructor. The work will be done both in discussion and written response format.
