  • 62 An Austrian Went Yodeling We did this and many of you have chosen this on your own at https://musicplayonline.com/grades/grade-3/ I LOVE this song and the actions, and the KID’S DEMO MOVIE has kids singing and doing the actions with you. I encourage you to try it.

  • 102 Zulu Dance The movie at https://musicplayonline.com/grades/grade-3/ gives great info and questions to think about as you listen

  • 101 Spider Song The movie at https://musicplayonline.com/grades/grade-3/ lets you follow with the words even if you don’t understand the language. More info and a story as promised on the checklist coming soon!

  • I encourage your third graders to explore other songs (Ndinani Na is fun!) at https://musicplayonline.com/grades/grade-3/ or even go back to the K, 1st, 2nd songs if they want at the tab toward the top of the site page. (The Musicplay online site is free through June, I believe, so they can do these on their own if they want) What a great opportunity for my students and I love it!!

  • There are also games on the right hand side in Musicplay Online. Have them pick a game. (I suggest for third grade the following: Which rhythm do you hear? Match the Melody What instrument do you hear? Beat or Rhythm, Beat or No Beat, Rhythm Racing, Smooth or separated. Other games might be easier but still fun) Let me know which ones they try and what their score is (not all games keep a score).

Once you have finished the anthem, please answer these questions on a piece of paper with your name, grade, and "Music Class Anthem" written at the top.

1. Did you sing the anthem with the music playing or without?

2. On a scale of 1-2-3-4-5, how did you do matching the correct notes? 1-did not match, 5-perfectly sang notes

3. On a scale of 1-2-3-4-5, how well did you know the words? 1-did not know the words at all, 5-perfectly knew words

1. How many beats are in each group of this song? (Remember that beat 1 is the heavy one and then count the others until 1 comes back)

2. What type of dance song is this? (Can you figure it out by looking at the answer to number one and the composer's name?)

Answer the following questions (It can still be that same piece of paper, just write Poor Me! before you answer questions.)

1. On a Scale of 1-2-3-4-5, How much do you like this song? 1=I don't like it, 5=I love this song, it's great!

2. Of all the chores in the song, which is your least favorite and why?

3. Have you heard this music before? Where?

Lesson Two: (You can add any questions you answered to the same piece of paper from lesson one or you can do a new one. You can send these pages back on the bus with your other classroom homework. You can also take a picture of the paper and email it to me at mkoch@g.sebeka.k12.mn.us or send it through Remind - your parents might be connected to me on that app!)

Poor Me! - You listened to this at the last lesson. I would like you to listen to it again and this time get ready to sing along. Listen to it a second

time and sing along the whole way through this time.

Pass It To You - I LOVE this song and I think you will have a great time learning this one! Follow along with the words (there is a lot of going back and

forth if you use the music and words. Listen to the song as you follow along. Answer these questions on a piece of paper like you did with the last lesson: (After you finish the questions, go ahead and sing along with the recording!)

1. On a scale of 1-2-3-4-5, How much do you like this song? 1=Not at all, not my style; 5=I love this song, it's great!

2. Can you describe the feelings people are having right now with the changes around us due to the virus?

3. How could this song help change those feelings you listed?

  • "Rabbits" - This is not a spring program song. It is from our book so the words are below this lesson on the page. When you listen to it, see if you recognize the tune from a song you already know! If you know the song it shares music with, write it down on your paper you will send back. If not, that's okay! Just sing along with the track on this page: https://wp.sebeka.k12.mn.us/mkoch/elementary-music/third-grade/third-grade-listening/
