TYPE OF GROUP: Academic Competition

HOW TO JOIN: No application. Students should speak with their counselor if they want to join. The counselor will let the group sponsor know. No GPA guidelines.
OTHER INFORMATION: The Academic Decathlon consists of 10 events: Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature, Math, Music, Science, Social Science, Speech and Super Quiz. Each year, one of the ten subjects is chosen as the Super Quiz, which uses a different format than the other events. The group practices during the school year to prepare for the competition.
TYPE OF GROUP: Business and Marketing Academic Group
SPONSOR: Ramona Harper & Julie Ann Bever
HOW TO JOIN: No tryouts. Students should either currently be in or have at least taken a business, finance, or marketing course at while at LHHS.
FUN FACTS: DECA students attend district competitions and have the opportunity to advance to the state and national levels. Students also attend field trips to places such as AT&T Stadium in Arlington, The Star in Frisco, The American Airlines Center in Dallas, and many more fun places to learn about marketing in the real world!
TYPE OF GROUP: Math Leadership
SPONSOR: Kelli Davenport
INFORMATION: Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, was formed in 1957 at the University of Oklahoma. We are dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students.
HOW TO JOIN:
Students complete an interest form at the beginning of the school year in their math class
Academics are reviewed by the sponsor to see if the student meets eligibility
Students earn service points from math tutoring
TYPE OF GROUP: Academic Excellence
SPONSOR: Olivia Goode
HOW TO JOIN:
An application is required
Must be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade
Eligible students fill out a candidate selection packet
GPA requirements to join are 3.5
Once a member, students must maintain the 3.5 GPA to remain in good standing
Teachers give a student rating based on their interaction with the student
Personal transportation could be needed in the event of outside volunteer opportunities
There is not a regular meeting schedule, but they will occur periodically
Minimum volunteer hours requirement must be met while a member
