This is a co-ed course, which introduces students to concepts and techniques of one or more dance forms. The forms of dance may include modern, classical ballet, tap, jazz, and folk/ethnic (i.e., country western). Dimensions of creativity, choreography, and artistic judgment will be explored. Health-related fitness activities will also be included.

Dance 3 continues to develop the concepts and techniques learned in Dance 1 and 2. This course will allow students to evaluate and analyze various genres of dance, enhance their decision making skills, develop critical and creative thinking skills, and enable them to make informed decisions about dance and the world around them. Students will be expected to demonstrate performance mastery throughout the year in various ways. This is a performance based class and there may be outside of the school day opportunities to showcase different aspects of the curriculum.

Dance 4 provides students with an advanced dance curriculum with a continuing emphasis on all basic dance knowledge and skills. Students will be encouraged to demonstrate refined kinesthetic and spatial awareness, lead peers in the performance of dance movements, and extend their multicultural studies and events. Students will be expected to demonstrate performance mastery throughout the year in various ways. This is a performance based class and there may be outside of the school day opportunities to showcase different aspects of the curriculum.

Students will learn dance techniques, drill team techniques, flexibility, high kicks, and other skills needed to prepare for drill team auditions, which are held in December of each year. After auditions, students who make drill team enroll in FA8021. Those who do not make drill team enroll in FA8029 for the spring semester.

This course is a dance class for drill team officers only. Students learn various forms of dance including modern, classical ballet, tap, jazz and folk/ethnic. In addition, students will learn leadership qualities, characteristics, and skills to be a leader of their squads as well as attend “officer” practices outside of the school day.

This is a co-ed “PERFORMANCE” dance course/class. Students learn ballet folklorico (Mexican/Latin American traditional dance) from the basic steps to the most complex combinations and dances. The ballet works on musical pieces that reflect various regions and folk music. Many of the ensemble’s works reflect the traditions of many indigenous cultures. In addition to regular class time practices, the class will perform outside the school day. This course will provide students with fundamental skills and knowledge of dance as an artform and lifetime activity, with a specific emphasis on areas that will improve their athletic ability. Students will study various forms of dance such as Ballet, Jazz, Hip hop, and social dance, as well as broader aspects of dance such as injury prevention, stretching, and building muscle tone. This course will help to increase flexibility, balance, explosiveness, and agility.

Students are not enrolled in this as a PE course. Color Guard members are enrolled in Fine Arts. (See Fine Art – Dance) The P.E. Substitution is added to Academic History at the end of the semester with a grade of pass/fail for successful participation in Marching Band. The PE grade does not count in GPA/Rank.
This is a course for participation in Color Guard associated with the marching band in the fall semester and prepares students for participation in Winter Guard performances and competitions in the spring. This course involves outside of school rehearsals, performances, and travel.
