Whether it's retrieving, evaluating and organizing information for a purpose, or simply organizing their lives, our students need to understand how technology can be used for personal growth and learning.
Finding a balance between technology, pedagogy and content in our classrooms is a bit of a 'chicken and egg-er', but something we notice is that when you have it, the spotlight moves off of the technology and onto the learning. YES!
To assist with deeper learning it is important that we understand how technology can support creative expression. Our students may understand iPads as a gaming platform, but might not be drawn to it as a writing and publishing station, a video production suite, or as an extension of their voice. To assist in that exploration, we've loaded several creative apps on all our iPads. Please get to know what each app is capable of.
Getting to know these apps, and the potential for student engagement they contain, can be significant. A teacher who knows what the technology is capable of:
A mind-map created in Popplet during a class discussion about cats. The centre graphic was created with ABC Magnetic Alphabet, and imported into Popplet.
Book Creator turns iPads into simple yet powerful publishing stations. Look for the cartoon panels and artwork to amp up the energy of story-telling!

How do we get more apps onto classroom iPads? Please view the slides below to learn more about the app distribution process.

Apple has a set of six (6) guidebooks designed to help educators better implement products like iPad and iOS apps into classroom activities. The iPad Starter Guide shows educators who are new to iPad how to navigate and personalize their device while working with built-in apps and features. The Keynote, Pages, Numbers, iMove and GarageBand guides help educators learn how to create spectacular learning materials. Each guide includes step-by-step instructions to learn basic and intermediate skills, and provides all the material needed to build a small project.
