Coach

Coach Holder was the girls basketball coach from 1974-2011 with a record of 646-278. Under her dominion, her teams were Western 3A Region Champions fifteen times and won the Western 3A Tournament six times. Coach Holder was named Region Coach of the Year thirteen times, coached sixty All-Conference players, and had seven Region Players of the Year. She coached fourteen All-State Players, three state 3A Players of the Year, and had twenty-two players to sign to play Division 1 collegiate basketball. Coach Holder’s teams were state ranked 28 of her 35 seasons, and had a #1 ranking nine seasons. Her team was ranked in the Top 50 Teams in America in 2000. Coach Holder led her team to the state play-offs 28 of 36 seasons. Her team made it to the first round of the play-offs six times, the second round five times, the third round five times, the upper-state finals seven times, and state finals five times. Coach Holder led two State Championship teams in 1995 and 1999. Coach Holder coached other women’s sports while coaching at SHS. She was the tennis coach from 1978-1980, finished third in the state, and was named Coach of the Year in 1979. She coached varsity cheerleaders 1975-1982, 1986-1994, and 1998. She has also coached track, volleyball, and softball. She assisted with the development of the women’s athletic program from 1975-1995.

Coach Holder is also involved and recognized by professional organizations around the state. She was inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association’s (SCACA) Hall of Fame in 2016 and the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association (SCBCA) Hall of Fame in 2012. She is a member of the Board of Directors for SCBCA and CAWS (Coaches Association of Women’s Sports). She served as vice-president of SCBCA in 1997-98 and president in 1998-99. Coach Holder coached the North South All-Star game in 1988 and 1993. She was the head coach for the Coaches Classic in 1999. She was the South Carolina All-Star Coach in the Southeastern Tournament in Florida for high school players.
