In his time at Seneca High School, Mr. Hughes earned 5 varsity letters in football, 4 letters in basketball and 3 letters in track as well as playing on the American Legion Baseball team for four years. He was voted All Skyline Conference for two years, was named to the North-South All Star team, and his senior year was named State Player of the Year and was named an All American. He was names to the All-Skyline Conference track team, and held the record for most points in a dual meet as he qualified for the state track meet each of his 3 years competing. Mr. Hughes earned a scholarship to play football at Clemson University and lead the freshman football team in rushing as a running back. Howard continued for three years to play running back and corner back at Wofford College for three years, and also competed on their track team and baseball team.
