In this standard, students are expected to multiply fractions by whole numbers. Students will also be solving word problems involving multiplying fractions.

Some important ideas with this standard:

• 5/4 = 5 x 1/4 (think of it as 5 copies of 1/4 or 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4)
• 3 x 2/5 = 6 x 1/5
