In this standard, students are expected to solve division problems using strategies based on place value, properties, and/or the idea that multiplication is the inverse (opposite) of division. Students need to be able to use pictures to support their work and explain how their strategy works.

Important vocabulary:

Dividend: the total amount that you are dividing 333 ÷ 9 = 37

Divisor: the number by which another number is divided 333 ÷ 9 = 37

Quotient : the result obtained by dividing one number by another (the answer) 333 ÷ 9 = 37

Remainder: the amount leftover

333 ÷ 9 = 37

270 ÷ 9 = 30 333-270= 63

63 ÷ 9 = 7
