This standard assesses a student's understanding of the principles of division. There are two types of division. The first type of division occurs when a total number of objects (ex. 56) is shared (partitioned) equally into a certain number of groups (ex. 8). In this example, students are trying to determine how many are in each group. The second type of division occurs when the total number of objects (ex. 56) is divided into groups of a certain number (ex. 8). In this example, students are trying to determine how many groups there are.
