In this standard, students will understand how area is related to multiplication and division. Students will find the area inside a shape by counting the number of square tiles. Students will learn that area can be found by multiplying length times width, and students will be able to solve area word problems.
There are two other parts to this standard that are usually the most difficult:
1) using the distributive property to find the area of larger shapes
2) add two areas together to find a composite area
