Building inclusive workplaces for autistic adults through co-created AI tools
Our study aims to understand and center the experiences of autistic adults face as they navigate gaining employment and integration in workplaces in Singapore, as well as explore how technology can support them. We also seek to hear from co-workers, employers, and employment support personnel, as the creation of an inclusive workplace is only possible through collaboration and active participation from all stakeholders—not solely autistic adults. The findings will serve to inform the development of an innovative AI assistant powered by large language models (LLMs) designed to provide autism-affirming, culturally acceptable suggestions for autistic adults and their-coworkers.
We want to understand needs of autistic adults and their co-workers during the transition to employment as well as integration in the workplace in Singapore.
We want to find out what existing tools and supports adults on the autism spectrum, their co-workers, and employment support personnel tap on, and where gaps exist.
We want to investigate how large language models (LLM) can provide real time, personalised support for autistic adults and their co-workers to navigate challenges, supplementing the role of job coaches, a key but scarce resource.

Testing of technological solution with stakeholders
The findings aim to support workplace inclusion for adults on the autism spectrum, aligning with Singapore’s Enabling Masterplan 2030. By designing autism-affirming, AI-driven tools, this project aims to support adults on the autism spectrum in achieving greater independence and career success. Globally, it can contribute to creating inclusive practices and leveraging technology to make workplaces more accessible.
We’re currently inviting autistic adults to take part in our participatory workshop for the first phase of our project.
