New Virtual Learning Guidelines for NYS!
The new virtual learning regulations have been moved from NYCRR 100.5 to NYCRR 100.2 and applies to all K12 students (not just those in credit bearing classes). All students can participate in virtual learning. The new regulations focus on supporting students in virtual learning environments. Highlights of the changes are:
Removal of term asynchronous with a focus on synchronous or blended instruction (asynchronous and synchronous instruction) with regular and substantive contact between the teacher and student.
Parental consent required for students to participate in virtual learning.
Only a teacher certified in the content area and employed by the district, BOCES or under a shared service may be a teacher of record for a virtual course.
