We adopted theme-based approach in F.1 – F.5 so that student output is highly aligned with their input. Vocabulary, proper phrases and expressions are recycled and consolidated successfully.
In order to nurture students’ higher order thinking strategies, we ask open-ended questions related to information literacy, guide students to analyse the text they are reading using CRAAP test and develop students’ ability to think from the perspective of different stakeholders through the adoption of an array of thinking routines.
We also set core curriculum for all classes in the same form. For English classes and elite classes, we arrange additional input materials of various skills to cater for their intellectual needs. By doing so, we have a high sense of catering for learner diversity during form collaborative meetings.
Our co-curricular adventures beckoned students towards new vistas of expression. Form 1 students embarked on a journey through the bustling streets of Tsim Sha Tsui, where cultural heritage whispered its tales at every corner. They captured these moments, weaving them into heartfelt postcards sent to their loved ones, blending personal reflection with the art of language. Form 2 students delved into the world of fame at Madame Tussauds, where they crafted celebratory posters honoring their favorite stars, all the while polishing their presentation skills. Form 3 students, in turn, roamed the halls of the M+ Museum, exploring the profound interplay between art and community.
We encourage students to participate in the competition as we believe this is a good chance for students to hone their speaking skills. Each year, we train two choral speaking teams and numerous students on solo prose / verse programmes. Students have always gained valuable experiences by taking part in these activities.
For those whose spirits are alight with creativity, the English Drama Club is a haven where talent takes flight. In the club, the art of performance goes hand-in-hand with the mastery of language and life skills. Under the guidance of English teachers, students refine their pronunciation, intonation, and voice projection, while also learning the invaluable lessons of teamwork, perseverance, and professionalism—qualities that will serve them well beyond the stage. We celebrate our members’ vibrant performances and look forward to the brilliance they will continue to bring, not only in drama but in all their endeavours.
With our marvelous team of English Ambassadors (EAs), we organize weekly English morning assemblies and lunchtime activities for everyone on campus.
Every week, EAs go on to the stage and share a wide variety of topics, including English idioms, social issues, Western culture, and school life trivia. The student-led approach of the English morning assemblies gives ample opportunities for students to practise their writing and speaking while learning how to gather and organize information, thereby developing them into confident English users.
We have been having a series of activities on English Speaking Days for years and these events are still up and running. The Have Your Say competitions encouraged students from Form 1 to Form 3 to step confidently onto the public speaking stage, while impromptu competitions for Forms 4 to 6 sharpened their quick-thinking and spontaneous expression.
Through these experiences, students were guided to embrace the English language with boldness and enthusiasm, their confidence as communicators blooming in each word spoken.
The English Department at LCK always spares no pains to heighten students’ awareness of world cultures and boost the English atmosphere. The annual English Fiesta, a celebration of cultures and the vibrant threads that connect us all, welcomed students into a world of global discovery. This year’s theme, "Traversing Borders: Exploring World Cultures", invited students to dive into the richness of human diversity, unveiling the beauty of understanding that transcends borders. We believe English is more than just a language; it fosters a global mindset in students, shaping them as informed global citizens. The event showcased various cultural activities, and the enthusiastic participation of students reflected their curiosity about different cultures and their potential to embrace cultural sensitivity.
‘We love because He first loved us’ (John 4:19).
Our program aims to provide an enriching learning experience to students through dynamic dancing and singing of hymns, interactive meaningful games, vivid Biblical stories, and fun STEM handicrafts. Not only can this consolidate their learning and enhance its effectiveness, but this can also help students gain a deeper understanding of the positive values from the Bible and God’s greatest love. We envision that these new LCK students can seize opportunities and handle challenges they may come across as they grow up with a positive attitude and most importantly with God’s love.
