Literacy Training is mandated for all teachers teaching PreK-3 by state statute and the Alaska Department of Education and highly encouraged for all grades.
**Please read carefully. There have been some important updates that deviate from previous guidance given from AK DEED. **
I completed a DEED offered professional learning course PRIOR TO 7/1/24
Your course certificate is on record with DEED. You do NOT need to submit an Add Endorsement application through TEACH-AK. The appropriate AK Reads K-3 Teacher/Administrator endorsement will be added to your certificate by the July 1, 2025, deadline. You will receive an email with a link to TEACH AK where you can view, download, and print your updated certificate.
Note- There are additional requirements that need to be submitted for the Alaska Reads Act Reading Teacher and the Alaska Reads Act Early Education Lead endorsement.

You need to submit an application for an Alaska Reads Act K-3 Teacher/Administrator Endorsement.
Use this guidance document to complete the process and submit your application. The fee for adding an Alaska Reads Act endorsement is $50
You will be updated via email when the teacher certification department is processing your submission.

Courses will likely continue to be offered by both ASDN and UAA as well.
