Assignment five the final assignment for this quarter. Assignment for all grades Due May 15th.

Sing Me a Song, or Play Me a Tune

This will be the final activity for this quarter. To complete the activity send me a video or a sound recording of you singing a song or playing tune. Alternatively you can send me a printed or typed copy of your own homemade lyrics to a song. Any poems that could be made into a song will work for this assignment too. Your music can be serious or silly, short or long, even partial songs or best practicing moments will be allowed. Challenge yourself appropriately and realistically for your grade, your musical skill, your instruments available at home and the technology options available to you.

Kindergartners and first graders are welcome to complete the activity above or alternatively they can submit a photo of a drawing, or a coloring of a musical instrument or instruments that they have completed at home.

Students who share to me their videos, recordings, lyrics or pictures may have their submission posted on this "Music With Mr Dahl" website. I will ask first for student and parent permission.

Thank you so much to anyone who has completed all the four previous assignments this quarter. If you have not done so, you are welcome to go back and complete the previous assignment at any point before the end of this quarter. It is your choice if you want to complete this assignment first, or go back and start with any previous assignments that you have not completed by this point.

Week Four (4/20 - 4/26) Assignment. Explore: Tonal Notes and the Music Staff

Step 1: First review the music staff note names on the Treble Clef.

Treble clef lines: Every Good Boy Does Fine

Treble clef spaces: spell FACE

EGBDF FACE.pdf

For Extra Credit: Study Bass Clef too.

Step 2: Now head to at least one of these linked sites and play the interactive note names game.

From the Classics for Kids website https://www.classicsforkids.com/games/note_names.php

or the Teaching Files website https://www.teachingfiles.co.uk/namethatnote2.htm

If the linked sites above don't work for your device you can draw the music staff at home. Just make five lines with a straight edge and draw a treble clef. Have a family member quiz you, using the letters C, D, E, F, G, A and B. or these words. A, ACE, AGE, BAG, FACE, CAGE, DEED, DEAF, CABBAGE, BAGGAGE. Can you find any more words that work as notes on the music staff?

Step 3: Now use the interactive typing music keyboard below from aQWERTYon to play some music.

To make it work you may need click in the box after aQWERTYon loads and then just start typing on your computer keyboard. You can change the instrument, the musical key, and the volume. Make sure your computer volume is turned on. Now make some music and have fun exploring your computer typing keyboard instrument.

If you are unable to create music with aQWERTYon you can use a tonal instrument to play at home. Make sure when you play your instrument you think about the note names while you play each note.

Please let me know how you participated in this activity. What was your favorite part? Contact Mr Dahl

(optional, take a picture or make a video of yourself doing this music activity)

Extension or Substitute Lesson: If you are already an instrumentalist please let me know of music you played this week, or in the last three weeks, while reading notes on a music staff.

The "aQWERTYon" interactive music keyboard below will only work on a computer or device that has a typing keyboard attached to it.

Week Three (4/13 - 4/19) Assignment for all grades: Household Percussion

Week 3 (4/13 - 4/19): Assignment: Household Percussion - All Grades.

Find, or create percussion instruments at home. For this week's music assignment, locate items that you find at home to create musical sounds. With a little exploration around your home you should be able find objects that make noises when you strike them, rub them, tap them or crash them together. You may also be able to create your own musical instruments to include in this activity. Maybe you can find something musical outside in your yard or when taking a family walk, or add a real musical instrument if you have one at home.

Always get your parents permission to use any of the items that you choose. You can find boxes, buckets, plastic bins, silverware, pots and pans or anything that you can create a sound with. You may also need to find or create a beater, a mallet, or set of drum sticks. Some objects you may be able to crash together like crash cymbals to make a sound. Make sure all items are safe to use. Don't use heavy or sharp objects. Also discuss with your parents where, and when, you can play these "instruments" so that you don't interrupt your family or your neighbors.

After you have chosen a collection of instruments make up some music. Create rhythms and melodies if your instruments make different pitches.

Again be safe and get your parents permission.

Below are some fun videos for you and your family to play along with from Musication. Use your household percussion instruments to play along.
