All-County Middle School Concert Band
Edna Y. Grace, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, received a B.S. in Music Education from South Carolina State College, a M.A. in Music from the Ohio State University, and a M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from the Citadel.
During her career of thirty-six years, Edna held posts as Band Director and General Music/Chorus teacher in Charleston County School District at Brentwood Middle (1981-1984 – General Music/Chorus; 1984-1991–Band) and Berkeley County School District at College Park Middle (1991-2007–Band) and Stratford High (2007-2017–Band/Chorus). The bands under her instruction received the highest ratings at the SCBDA Concert Festival and Solo and Ensemble Festival, while individual students were selected for membership in honor bands (All-County Concert Bands, All-County Jazz Band (BCSD), Region Honor Band, South Carolina All-State Band, and the SC All-State Jazz Bands). Both the middle and high school band programs were consistent recipients of the SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award. In addition, the College Park Band earned the honor of performance at the 2003 SCMEA conference.
While at College Park, Edna also served as an assistant director at Stratford High School during marching season. When she became Director of Bands at Stratford, students continued a tradition of excellence through participation in the concert bands, jazz band, marching band, small ensembles, symphony orchestra, winter guard/dance line, class piano, and class guitar. At the start of her thirty-fifth teaching year, Ms. Grace took the sole position at Stratford High School of director of the choral music program, having had the dual role of Director of Bands and Choral Director the previous four years. The program grew in student membership while maintaining consistent numbers in All-County Chorus and SC All-State Chorus.
Professional affiliations have included the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA), National Band Associa-tion (NBA), Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity (PBM), Women Band Direc-tors International (WBDI), the South Carolina Band Directors Association (SCBDA), the American Choral Directors Association, and the South Carolina American Choral Directors Association. Edna served SCBDA as recording secretary and as a member of several committees, including Solo and Ensemble, All-State, Concert Festival, and Winter Ensemble.
Edna has served as an honor band clinician and concert band adjudicator in South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, and Georgia. She has been an adjunct faculty member of Charleston Southern University teaching studio oboe and Music Appreciation. Edna has been active in community music ensembles including the Summerville Community Orchestra, the Charleston Wind Ensemble (one year as conductor), and the Goose Creek Community Band for which she served as conductor until its reorganization as the St. James Wind Ensemble.
Among the honors that have been presented to Ms. Grace are the NBA Citation of Excellence, the WBDI Scroll of Excellence, PBM Outstanding Bandmaster Award, PBM Band-masters Hall of Fame, and SCBDA Hall of Fame. She also was selected as Teacher of the Year at both Brentwood and College Park as well as and being named a top three finalist for Berkeley County.
Since retirement in June 2017, Edna continues to contribute to music education as a private teacher of double reed players, a band and orchestra adjudicator and clinician, a mentor to directors across the state, an artist in residence at schools in Berkeley County, and as a substitute teacher in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties. She also serves SCMEA executive board as Retired Member Chair. Her remaining time is spent traveling and visiting her family, serving her church as a substitute organist, class leader, and director of the Combined Choirs, and playing oboe and alto/tenor saxophone in the St. James Wind Ensemble.

All-County High School Concert Band
Dr. Adam Scheuch is in his 26th year teaching and 20th year as the Director of Bands of Mauldin High School. Prior to his current tenure, he served as the Director of Bands for Mauldin Middle School from 1999-2004, and the Assistant Director of Bands in the West Ashley area of Charleston, SC from 1998-1999. He holds degrees from Furman University, VanderCook College of Music, and American College of Education. He is a National Board Certified teacher and a member of Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Beta Mu, Kappa Delta Pi, NAfME, and SCBDA. He serves as the Lead Band Director for Greenville County Schools and was recognized as the 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year for the Greenville County School District. In 2019, he received the Citation of Excellence from the National Band Association. In the SCBDA, Dr. Scheuch served on the Solo and Ensemble, Winter Ensemble, and Marching committees for a combined 19 years and was on the Executive Board as the Awards Chairman for two years. He currently serves on the Executive Board as the President-Elect of the SCBDA.
The Mauldin High School Band consists of the three concert bands, marching band, jazz band, three winter guards, and indoor percussion. The band program is a proud recipient of the Outstanding Performance Award, the highest award given by the SCBDA to South Carolina bands, each year since 2006. The marching band is a Bands of America regional finalist and a regular 5A state finalist. The winter guard and indoor percussion groups are WGI World Championships semi-finalists. Various groups have performed throughout the Southeastern United States as well as San Antonio, TX, New Orleans, LA, and Chicago, IL. In 2019, the wind ensemble was a feature performing group at the South Carolina Music Educators Association state conference.

All-County High School Wind Ensemble
Frances Shelton, after graduating from Hendersonville High School, received her B.A. degree in Elementary Education and B.M. degree in Music Education from Mars Hill College, graduating cum laude. She received her Master of Music degree from Appalachian State University. Shelton holds membership in North Carolina Bandmasters Association, Women Band Directors International, National Band Association and American School Band Directors Association.
Shelton has served as President, President-Elect, Past President, and currently serves as Finance Officer of North Carolina Bandmasters Association. She also served as President, President-Elect and Past President of the Western District Bandmasters Association, Secretary of the NC Music Educators Association, Vice President, President-Elect and President of Women Band Directors International, and Representative for National Band Association. Shelton is the 1990 winner of the Award of Excellence in North Carolina Western District, 1992 winner of the WBDI Scroll of Excellence, 1996 Teacher of the Year Award at Hendersonville HS, and 2004 WBDI Citation of Merit Award. In December 2009, Shelton was awarded the Silver Baton Award and in 2019 she was presented the International Golden Rose Award by the Women Band Directors International at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. She has served as clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States and Canada and has been staff conductor eighteen times on European Tours.
Shelton was director of bands at Hendersonville High School in Hendersonville, North Carolina for 28 years and taught at Robbinsville High School her first 5 years. During her 28 years the HHS Bands received straight superior ratings with the concert, marching and jazz bands. The HHS Bands have performed at Billy Graham's Congressional Medal Ceremony, 1996 Olympic games, Gator, Sugar and Orange Bowls, Carnegie Hall in NYC, Symphony Hall in Boston, Mass., the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Chicago Symphony Hall in Chicago, IL, Renee and Henry Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Los Angeles, Disney World, and Atlanta Symphony Hall. The Hendersonville High School Band program was featured in the 2011 September Issue of the School Band and Orchestra Magazine as “A SMALL SCHOOL WITH A BIG BAND.” In 2014, the Hendersonville High School Concert Bands were invited to perform again at Carnegie Hall on their ten-year anniversary of the most outstanding high school bands throughout the United States.
Shelton is the tour director for the North Carolina Ambassadors. The NC Ambassadors will be performing summer of 2025 throughout Europe. As of September 2018, Shelton assumed the Musical Director position of the Asheville NC Community Band an ensemble which she played trumpet in throughout her career. Shelton was inducted to the North Carolina Bandmasters Hall of Fame in 2019. She will be awarded the Edwin Franko Goldman Award from the American School Bandmasters Association June 2024, in Indianapolis, Minnesota for her outstanding contributions to music education in the United States.
