A.M. Car Arrival

Please help us keep the car rider line moving quickly by having your child ready to exit the car when stopped. Remind your child to be ready as you approach the car rider line and come to a complete stop. Students should have belongings together, have their mask on and be ready to exit the car.

Your child should exit the vehicle on the sidewalk side of the car.

Parents/guardians should remain in their car at all times, unless it is necessary to assist your child. If you need to exit your vehicle to assist your child, please pull into the main parking lot and then re-enter the car rider line or walk your child across using the crosswalk.

P.M. Car Dismissal

Our dismissal lines are moving quicker and we are asking parents/guardians not to wait for a later time to arrive. Please be in the car rider line by 2:45 pm and plan accordingly to avoid your child having to wait for pickup.

IPAD: Please help your child remember to fully charge his/her ipad and bring it to school every day.

Attendance

Thank you for continuing to inform us of any COVID-19 related illness and monitoring your child’s health and informing us if you are keeping him/her home due to illness.

As we prepare our Tigers for the future we want to remind our parents that consistent school attendance is critical for student achievement. If students are not in attendance, on time, and present for the entire duration of the school day, they cannot benefit from classroom instruction. State attendance laws require student attendance for course credit and grade-level promotion. Additionally, state attendance laws require intervention when a student is deemed truant.

Please take a moment to review a few of our important attendance policies listed below.

• Our school doors open at 7:00 AM, with our school day beginning at 7:30 AM. Students who are not in their classrooms prior to 7:30 AM are considered tardy.

• Our school day dismisses at 2:30 PM, students who leave prior to 2:30 PM are considered to have an early dismissal.

• Students who leave school prior to 11:00 AM, and do not return, will be counted as absent.

For more detailed information regarding Horry County School District’s attendance policies please use the link below. You can also find additional information regarding the effects attendance has on your child’s future by reviewing the attached HCS Attendance Policy flyer. https://www.horrycountyschools.net/Page/1063

Please contact Ms.Callahan at 843-488-6165 or tcallahan001@horrycountyschools.net if you should have any questions or concerns about attendance.

CES Tiger Gram - Friday, February 5, 2021

Hello CES Tigers,

It was an awesome week welcoming our HCS Virtual students back to “the greatest school on the planet!”

In an effort to help keep our students safe during morning arrival and avoid congestion on the streets surrounding CES, we will open a second a.m. car rider drop off location on the school bus lot beginning at 7:15 am on Monday, February 8th. The bus lot is located on Magrath Street. Beginning at 7:15 am, morning car riders may drop off entering the bus lot from Magrath Street and drive around the retention pond (to the left), pulling up to the end of the sidewalk, and unloading from the left side of the car onto the sidewalk. Please pull forward to allow as many cars to unload and help make this process run smoothly. Students must remain in the car and unload from the sidewalk. We ask parents to remain in the vehicle and there will be staff outside to assist children who need assistance with unloading until 7:30 am.

We will continue with our regular car rider line from 12th Avenue and Snowhill Drive into the school driveway beginning at 7:00 am and continuing until 7:30 am. As normal, please pull forward behind the car ahead to allow as many cars to unload. Please have your child ready to unload and wearing a mask upon arrival at the school. If your child is not ready to exit the car, we will ask you to pull into the main parking lot.

Now that we are back to 5 days a week, we will have one House Day and it will be on Wednesday's. On House Wednesday, we encourage our Tigers to wear their house colors and buttons to earn house points each week!

Wednesday, February 10th is Let's Rock CES Day! Students are asked to wear their best school appropriate "rock star" themed gear for a great classroom experience!

Friday, February 12th will be our Wear Red Day and Kids Heart Challenge Kick Off to support The American Heart Association.

Monday, February 15th is President’s Day and No School for Students.

HCS Virtual Program Printables: Printed packets for the second semester will be available for parent pick up on Monday, February 15th – Wednesday, February 17th from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm in front of the school under the covered walkway.

Breakfast and Lunch Menus for the week of February 8-12th: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zExCbY9_zv_tiknaOSTbkNne4V8l0f0j/view?usp=sharing

Our staff has been very busy preparing and organizing for next week’s return of all students. Staff will review and practice all safety protocols and procedures with students. We will continue to do our best to ensure the overall safety for students and staff daily.

Hello CES Tigers,

We will be sooooooooooo happy to see our Little Tigers this week as they return to our hybrid instructional schedule (2 days in-person and 3 days from home). Thank you again for making sure your child participated in full distance learning instruction on their assigned days.

Students will continue to meet with their teacher during the designated time on Fridays and complete distance learning assignments on their three days of school at home. For HCS Parent Employees, childcare will resume as normal.

Our Tigers will be seeing a new face to the CES Staff when they return on Tuesday. Mrs. Ward, art teacher, will be on family medical leave for an extended period of time and we welcome Ms. Cadesha Wallace, certified teacher, as the long term substitute teacher for art instruction. Ms. Wallace is a recent graduate of Coastal Carolina University and very excited to join the CES Family and meet our Tigers!

We also thank you and our PTO for the new sensory and play paths our primary students will enjoy during their outside brain breaks. These paths are colorful, creative, and playful ways for students to build sensory connections in the brain. They will help develop motor skills, balance, hand eye coordination, spatial awareness and get them moving, walking, jumping, skipping, etc. These paths were designed and installed by Ms. Crystal Frye of The EZ Easel LLC - Home | Facebook.

Hello CES Tigers,

Please click on the link below for a very special video message from Tuffy the Tiger to you! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OchlUvZnjTsIGHPOJDUPt5Uk1U1ke3rk/view?usp=sharing

You are Spectacular! You’ve done great this week with ensuring your child participated and attended online classes this week. Let's do it again for the week of January 11th – 15th! Teachers will be providing you with the distance learning assignments for January 11th – 15th by email, Seesaw, Google Classroom, and/or Class Tag. There will not be any items to pick up from the school.

Google Meet Tip

The sound issue that some of our students may have been experiencing when joining a Google Meet this week has been a common problem throughout. Sometimes the student cannot hear the teacher, the teacher cannot hear the student, or both. Regular classes and specials have been experiencing this issue. We have found that the quick fix for this is to have the student hang up, and then rejoin the Google Meet. Sometimes it takes three tries to finally get the sound working.

Meals: As a reminder, multiple meals can be picked up on Tuesdays and Thursdays next week between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at one of our 11 curbside locations listed here: Aynor Elementary, Green Sea Floyds Elementary, Loris Middle, Myrtle Beach Middle, North Myrtle Beach Middle, Palmetto Bays Elementary, St. James Middle, Socastee High School, South Conway Elementary, Ten Oaks Middle, Whittemore Park Middle.

Parents are encouraged to pick up meals for all household children at one of the designated locations.

Remember Monday, January 18th is a Student Holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We hope students will participate in a day of service safely. Here are some additional student activities: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1dbenyYFy2RnZtFN1y8ADMKNy2cF5amqu7QFUzbX1VJ8/edit?usp=sharing

As of today, students are scheduled to return to CES on the hybrid model of instruction on Tuesday, January 19th.

Important Dates to Remember

  • Thursday, January 28th will be an early dismissal day at 12 noon and the end of the 2nd Quarter.

  • Friday, January 29th is a Teacher Workday and Student Holiday. There will be no school for students.

  • Monday, February 1st is the first day of the 3rd Quarter and 2nd semester. We will welcome back our approved and returning CES Tigers from HCS Virtual.

  • Report cards for the 2nd nine weeks will be issued on Wednesday, February 3rd.
