I was born in Long Beach California but moved to the country in Northern California in 2nd grade. As a child, I worked on almond farms with my family. I was the first in my family to attend university. I started right out of high school but had to leave for financial reasons. I finally was able to finish my bachelor's degree 9 years after starting. I paid for college by joining the Army and attained the rank of staff sergeant (E6).
In college, I studied Socio-Cultural Anthropology and have a passion for learning about other cultures. I did my final research in Ecuador with Indigenous Otavalenos. I can speak some Spanish and understand more than I speak. I worked for many years in other jobs before becoming a teacher. I finally decided to become a teacher because I wanted to make a positive impact on our world.
I have worked at Tyee campus since January of 2014 and love our school. I am certified to teach English and Social Studies and although I am only teaching English courses this year I try to add history and social relevance to the class experience. I love to help students and families in whatever ways they need and encourage you to reach out to me anytime you have concerns.
Where are we going and how will we get there?
Who's History? (Indigenous perspectives)
Enslaved Americans (A History of Resistance)
Colonialism and Imperialism (racism, immigration, attitudes, resource extraction)
