Position Description: This project will involve digitizing and tabulating ocean sediment data from scientific papers; the ultimate goal of this project is to contribute to a new model of the ocean chemistry. The student will be given a set of papers (as pdf files) and will be tasked with converting data into spreadsheets, either by entering data directly (if tables are provided in the paper) or by using provided graph digitization software (if only graphs are provided in the paper).

Duration: 2 weeks

Work Hours: 10 hours/week

Pay Rate: $15/hour

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • no prior experience in the field is necessary

  • computer

  • internet

  • complete a survey at the end of the project

All necessary software and instructions will be provided.

Opportunities to Explore the EPS Department:

The student will be fully assimilated into Johnston lab activities, Slack threads, reading groups, etc.; the student will be introduced by Jordon Hemingway and David Johnston, and work primarily with Hemingway. At the outset, all members of the group will have a conversation about inclusivity and communicating needs and expectations.
