About the Director

Amy Rawlins, MA Theatre Education

Ms. Amy Rawlins is a native New Englander, born and raised in the small town of Norfolk, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston.  Growing up, she attended the Franklin School for the Performing Arts, where she studied Theatre, Dance, Voice, and Piano.  Ms. Rawlins attended Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA where she received her BFA in Musical Theatre with minors in both Voice and Dance.  After graduating, she took a job directing musicals at Chelsea High School, in Chelsea, MA - with the ultimate goal of saving enough money to move to NYC to become a Rockette.  She was bitten by the teaching bug, and was hired as a full time theatre and dance teacher, and spent 11 years teaching and directing in the Chelsea Public Schools. Ms. Rawlins was also able to work professionally as a performer - working on cruise ships, with improv troupes, and professional theaters in New England. While teaching in Chelsea, Ms. Rawlins also obtained her Masters in Theatre Education from Emerson College.  After graduating from Emerson, she was asked to join the faculty to teach classes in urban education and contemporary issues in education. In 2011, fate stepped in and she met her husband (a Georgia native) and decided to make the move down south.  She was fortunate to be offered a job teaching and directing theatre at Decatur High School in Decatur, GA - and spent 9 years building the musical theatre program there. She received Shuler nominations for her directing and choreography work at Decatur HS. Ms. Rawlins ultimately decided the commute was too much, and chose to take a job closer to home at Dacula High School.  She absolutely loves teaching and directing high school theatre.  She also enjoys baking, yoga, golf, being outdoors, watching any New England sports team, and just spending time with her family. Ms. Rawlins lives in Dacula with her husband Justin (of 10 years) and two incredible children Jackson (9) and Audrey (4).
