Teruo Fujii (online participation)
President, The University of Tokyo
Dr. Teruo Fujii became the 31th President of the University of Tokyo in 2021, with a six-year term. He was previously Executive Vice President in charge of finance and external relations for the university. He also served as Director General of Institute of Industrial Science (IIS) of the university from 2015 to 2018. He received his Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1993, held research positions at IIS and RIKEN Institute, and became a professor of IIS in 2007.
Dr. Fujii has served as an Executive Member (part-time) of the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation, Cabinet Office, Government of Japan since March 2021. He was also an advisor to Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) from 2005 to 2008, Co-director of LIMMS-CNRS/IIS, a joint research lab between CNRS, France, and IIS, from 2007 to 2014, and the President of Chemical and Biological Microsystems Society (CBMS) from 2017 to 2019.
Dr. Fujii's research specializes in applied microfluidics systems and underwater technology.

Miles Pennington
Professor, Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo
Design Led Innovation

Professor Pennington is also Co-Director of the DLX Design Academy.
He helps direct a unique international innovation lab in Institute of Industrial Science - the DLX Design Lab that curates collaboration between and design and science research. Previously he was at the Royal College of Art in London and was Head of Programme of the Innovation Design Engineering (IDE) joint Masters programme with Imperial College - he is an alumnus of the IDE programme and graduated in 1992. He was also Founder and Head of the international exchange programme Global Innovation Design (GID) programme which was established in 2012. In the past in parallel to his academic work he was Director of the London office of the innovation consultancy Takram. He moved to Japan in September 2017 to join the University of Tokyo.

Yoshiho Ikeuchi
Associate Professor, Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo
Bio molecular and cellular engineering

Professor Ikeuchi is involved in the creation of nervous tissue (organoids) from human iPS cells and this tissue's application in neural circuits in order to better understand the mechanisms of the brain. He has successfully developed technology used to connect nervous tissue via axon bundles and thus achieve a state similar to that seen in the human body.
He graduated from the Department of Chemistry & Biotechnology, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo and received his Ph.D. He held research positions in Harvard Medical School and Washington University in St. Louis from 2007-2014. He started his laboratory in Institute of Industrial Science in 2014.

Yoshiyuki Kawazoe
Associate Professor, Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo
Design of architecture
Professor Kawazoe is an architect and also a member of Kousou Inc., an architect design office based in Tokyo. Born in Kanagawa prefecture in 1979.
He graduated from the Department of Architecture at the University of Tokyo and received his Ph.D. after pursuing his studies in Netherlands.
His architectural works include "The University of Tokyo Central Library Annex 東京大学総合図書館別館" and "Bou-you-rou 望洋楼, " and his books include " Tracing the Intention in Space 空間にこめられた意思をたどる" (Gento-sha 幻冬舎) and "Living in This Town このまちに生きる" (Shokoku-sha 彰国社).
He has received numerous national and international awards, including the Tokyo Architecture Award Grand Prize, the Architectural Institute of Japan The Best New Architect Award, Good Design - Design For the Future Award, the Honorable Mention the Rogelio Salmona Latin American Architecture Prize and the BELCA Award.

Alicia Tam Wei
Parsons School of Design, Rhode Island School of Design
Industrial Design
Alicia Tam Wei is a design strategist and educator. She is passionate about fusing creative ideas with emerging technologies to develop innovative products. An experienced product manager and UX designer for technology start-ups, her product design work has been featured at Wanted Design (NYC) and the Surface Design Show (London).
Alicia is a faculty member at Parsons School of Design, where she advises thesis students and teaches in both the MFA Industrial Design and BFA Product Design programs. In addition to teaching at Parsons, Alicia is also a Critic for the Masters of Industrial Design program at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She holds a BA in Architecture from Yale University, an MA from the Royal College of Art and an MSc from Imperial College London in Innovation Design Engineering.
