Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), the University of Tokyo aims to “approach various engineering-related issues and value creation in a broad perspective, to carry out research and education with a focus on pioneering academic and comprehensive studies on social and industrial challenges, and to contribute the results of its activities back to society and industry”. (The University of Tokyo Rules for Institute of Industrial Science, Article 2)
In light of this founding principle, IIS established the UTokyo-IIS Research Collaboration Initiative Award in 2021. The purpose of this award is to encourage our ambitious students who are active in connecting with actors outside of IIS e.g., other academic research institutions, industry, local and international communities, and who try to understand and address their challenges through collaborative research activities with them. We are now accepting applications for this award for 2025.
These activities can be domestic/international or online/onsite. The selection of this Award will be based on any research activity with awareness of its relevance to social, regional or global challenges, such as active international collaboration and contribution, collaboration with researchers, industries and/or local communities.
