Learning for All
By working together in a professional learning community, we accept collective responsibility to do whatever it takes for all students to learn and achieve at high levels.
In order to support our mission and vision, we commit to:
• Utilize ongoing data collection and analysis to drive instruction, intervention, and extension to meet the needs of all learners,
• Establish clear expectations for all students and staff,
• Consistently work with students in flexible small groups,
• Genuinely encourage students and one another with kind and positive attitudes,
• Form genuine relationships based on mutual trust, respect, and openness,
• Engage students in collaborative activities that are meaningful and relevant, and
• Utilize ongoing, meaningful goal and data-driven collaboration across content and grade levels.
Capturing Kids' Hearts is a program that Cross Oaks began using in 2017-2018. It features several key components.
Teachers and students must have a positive relationship built on respect. To foster this relationship we do the following the things on a daily basis:
Good things- students have the opportunity to share about the good things that is happening in their lives.
Launch- the teacher leaves the students with a motivational message that is designed to help guide them through the next part of their day.
Maintain the social contract- the students and teacher together come up with the expectations for the behavior in the classroom. How will we treat each other and how will we react when there is a conflict.
Focus on choice: When students are not following the social contract, the teacher follows up with a standard set of questions that redirect the student to realize the choice he or she is making.
Seesaw will be the primary communication tool for our class this year. The goal is to give parents an “eye into the classroom." You will be able to see evidence, in real-time, of meaningful student learning in the classroom. Students will take ownership of their own learning through the use of this technology. Parents are strongly encouraged to download the Seesaw app to receive notifications, including class announcements, weekly newsletters, and evidence of your child's learning.
As a campus, we will be using SeeSaw to share student work but also to communicate with families. If you have not already joined our class, please do so! You may be missing important information by not joining.
