Curriculum
Math
In this unit, the students will be focusing on place value to 1,200. Students will understand that digits have different values based on their placement within a number. They will develop number sense by using concrete and pictorial models to compose and decompose numbers in more than one way. They will also be able to use standard, word, and expanded forms to represent numbers up to 1,200.
Reading and Writing
Handwriting: Students will continue to practice their handwriting skills through different writing activities.
Writing: This week in writing, students will learn how to develop a tiny moment into a whole story. Students will zoom in on a small moment, to capture it so that readers see it as they do by writing lots of details.
Reading: This week, students are learning that most stories have the same story elements (characters, setting, problem, key events, and solution).
phonics
Grammar: We will use verbs to show time, past, present, and future.
Phonics: We will continue r-controlled vowels and work on sight words: school, after, every, never.
science/Social Studies
**We will alternate between science and social studies each week**
This week in science students will be able to demonstrate that small units such as building blocks can be combined or reassembled to form new objects for different purposes and explain the materials chosen based on their physical properties.
