We still need the following amount of chaperones per teacher:
Jelinek: 2
Matney: FULL
Thompson: 1
Covey: 3
Thomas: 3
Jacob: 5
We will be hosting two sessions altogether as one grade level in Ms. Thompson's room (Room 205). We will be giving you a glance at what your student will be learning in all subjects this year! This will also be an opportunity for you to ask any clarifying questions.
Please ensure to send your child with appropriate shoes for their P.E. days!
Please get these signed and returned to your child's teachers as soon as possible! If you need a new copy, please reach out to your child's teacher and we will send a new one. We start guided reading groups very soon and we cannot send books home with your child if this form has not been signed and turned in.
Please fill out a background check. You must fill out a new one every year. It can take up to 2 weeks to process, so don't wait!
***This is ALWAYS subject to change. School Cafe is updated the morning of, so be sure to check that for any possible changes***
Curriculum
Math
In this unit, the students will be focusing on place value to 1,200. Students will understand that digits have different values based on their placement within a number. They will develop number sense by using concrete and pictorial models to compose and decompose numbers in more than one way. They will also be able to use standard, word, and expanded forms to represent numbers up to 1,200.
Reading and Writing
Handwriting: Students will continue to practice their handwriting skills through different writing activities.
Writing: Students will continue working on their small moment story by looking at their writing, making plans, and setting goals. Students will revise their piece so that they can create a particular effect on the reader.
Reading: This week, students are learning that most stories have the same story elements (characters, setting, problem, key events, and solution). Students will be taking their first CFA (Common Formative Assessment) over External Character Traits and Retelling this week.
phonics
Grammar: Students will write sentences with nouns and verbs.
Phonics: We will be working on decoding multisyllabic words with diphthongs (aw/au, oi/oy, oo, ow, ew, ou) and will read and write words with consonant trigraphs (sch, scr, shr, spl, spr, squ, str, thr).
science/Social Studies
**We will alternate between science and social studies each week**
During the first nine weeks, second graders will be learning about rules and authority figures in the home, the school, and the local community. We will also participate in Freedom Week activities as the nation celebrates Constitution Day, September 17th. This unit will help students as they learn to participate as informed citizens in a Constitutional Republic.
