Reading and Writing
This 9-week period, our focus in reading will be on deepening students' understanding of characters. We will review external character traits, such as appearance and actions, while also introducing internal traits, like emotions and motivations. Students will practice identifying key ideas, making inferences, and retelling stories with a focus on both plot and character development. These skills will help them become more thoughtful readers and improve their overall comprehension.
In writing, we will be learning about opinion writing! Students will practice sharing their opinions and explaining why they feel that way. They will learn how to give reasons and examples to support their thoughts. By the end of this unit, each student will write their own opinion piece, practicing how to share their ideas clearly and confidently.
phonics
Grammar: Students will be practicing using the , a and an to describe a noun.

In Bend 4, you will teach adding -ing and -ed also making words plural. Students will continue work on mastering high-frequency words.

**We will alternate between science and social studies each week**
Science
This unit focuses on how wind and water move soil and rock particles across the surface of the earth, how weather is measured and how different types of severe weather events occur.
Social Studies
During the third nine weeks, second graders will be learning about the past and present through various sources. They will be using the lessons of the past to make sense of the present by analyzing a historical period or figure.
