Curriculum
During the first couple weeks, we will focus on setting clear expectations and understanding classroom rules. Establishing these guidelines early helps create a positive and structured learning environment where every student can thrive. We will spend time discussing and practicing these expectations to ensure that all students feel confident and ready to learn. Your support in reinforcing these rules at home is greatly appreciated. Together, we can make this a fantastic year for your child.
We will, however, begin our curriculum this week as we continue focusing on procedures and expectations. Below you will find out what we will be focusing on during the first units of the school year!
Math
This week we will be learning about money. We are focusing on determining when it is appropriate to use the cent sign versus using the dollar sign with a decimal point and Counting collections of the same type of coin or a mixed group of coins up to one dollar.
Reading and Writing
Handwriting: Students will continue to practice their handwriting skills through different writing activities.
Writing: This week in writing, students will learn how to develop a tiny moment into a whole story. Students will zoom in on a small moment, to capture it so that readers see it as they do by writing lots of details.
Reading: This week, students are practicing solving unknown words in their reading. They are also noticing how use of punctuation and font help you read well.
phonics
Grammar: Students will use verbs to tell it like it is, including: are, was, were, be, been, and am.
Phonics: We will read and spell words with vowel teams (ai, ay, ee, ea, ie, oa, ue), and r-controlled vowels (ar, or).
science/Social Studies
**We will alternate between science and social studies each week**
This week in science students will be able to explain how physical properties can be changed through processes such as cutting, folding, sanding, melting or freezing.
