Check with your parents for the zoom code.
For the next week I would love it if the 5th grade orchestra students could make an audio recording of 4 of the songs that we had been working on. I will then put them together to make a short audio concert for our final performance together. Here are the instructions for this.
Tuning: Here is an mp3 track that you can check your open strings with. The order is A, D G, C and E (you wont need the last 2). Use your fine tuners to adjust the best you can. If you need to move a peg then contact Mr Atkins for a zoom meeting.
Here are some pdf files if you don't have music:
Audio Advice: Use 2 different devices for this if possible (unless you have a setup that allows you to easily record while listening with headphones without lag issues.) Use one to play recording and USE HEADPHONES. With your other device record an audio file of the music that you are going to record.
Make sure to use the best audio recording app that you can.
Test it first before recording.
Here are the tracks for you to play along with. For the ones with an A and B line feel free record both if you want. Don’t play repeats. I can copy and paste for the repeat.
Can Can Backing Track (if you cant play this one then feel free to skip it)
French Folk Song Backing Track
Rockin’ Strings Backing Track (take 2nd ending)
Upload Tracks: Use THIS GOOGLE LINK to upload audio tracks. You can use this link multiple times if you need to upload more than 4 (if you did both A and B line for some songs)
Email Mr Atkins if you have any questions.
Check out Essential Elements Interactive. This is where you can play our songs along with different styles of music. The website is https://www.essentialelementsinteractive.com. For log in information check out THIS PDF. Our school code is AtkinsOrchestra and the ID number for setting up your account is your student ID Number. This does require that you have the Essential Elements book.
Task 1 (4/1- 4/8) If you have not done this yet then you can still catch up: Pick at least 2 of the options below.

Please try and use Smartmusic if you have the technology for it. It is a fun way to practice and you can also easily submit and be assigned music. As always continue to work through the Essential Elements book. I'll add music suggestions (and pdf files for people without music). I'll also add other activities as time passes.
If you need help or if you need to schedule a video Zoom session so that I can help tune a really out of tune instrument then email me at jatkins@dentonisd.org
For now, at least work on:
French Folk Song
Lightly Row
Can Can
Rockin Strings
Check out below for an intro video for Smartmusic. If you haven't resisted yet, here is the info:
Here is an invite for you to join Smartmusic. It is a program that has been made free during school closures. This week go ahead and try it out. It has a huge library of solos, ensemble music and etude books that you can play and practice with. Make sure to use the search filter for “Beginning” and “Very Easy. It also has the essential elements book that you can play along with. I have added this to “My method books” on your home page. You may have to scroll down to see this. I would also suggest checking out “Measures of Success for String Orchestra”, “Orchestra Expressions Book 1”, and “String Explorer”. For simple solos check out “The Beginning Violin/Viola/Cello/Bass Soloist”. There are plenty more options to explore.
You can loop sections to practice spots. You can record and have it gives you feedback (green note is good, yellow is wrong rhythm and red is wrong note). When doing this make sure to wear headphones. You can also change the tempo and play along with the orchestra/piano accompaniment. As you join I will assign the premium content to you. Please let me know how this goes and if you have any questions about how to use. Unfortunately, it is not set up to be used with cellphones but it will work with PC, Macs, Chromebook and Ipad (get the new smart music app). I think it prefers the chrome browser. Have fun with it. My daughter (8 years old) has been using it and loves it. She enjoys easily listening back to her recordings and seeing where she was making mistakes.
