DRAWING & ART 1

Mrs. Fitzsimmons

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

DRAWING 2, 3 & 4

Drawing 2 (prerequisite=Art 1) Drawing 3 & 4 (prerequisite=Drawing 2)

These full year studio-based courses explore a variety of techniques, subject matter, and drawing media. The bulk of student class work is based on in-depth art production. Student achievement and grades depend on effort, mastery level of drawing techniques, quality, and completion of studio projects. Drawing 3 & 4 projects are larger in scale, more challenging, and more detail oriented than those pursued in Drawing 2. Upper level drawing classes cover more advanced drawing techniques, and subject matter/projects are more challenging. Drawing 3 & 4 may require extra time outside of class to complete projects and sketchbook assignments.

ART 1

A full-year introductory course that satisfies the 1 credit Fine Arts graduation requirement. It is the prerequisite for Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and Ceramics. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of drawing, elements and principles of design, 2-D and 3-D media and techniques, art history within a cultural context, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving.

ART EDUCATION IS IMPORTANT

In my art room, students will learn a variety of art media, while focusing on fundamental techniques that will improve their overall skills, and build their artistic confidence. While the focus will be on materials and techniques, I will use personal choice, art history, classical techniques, contemporary art, pop culture, street art, and more to give each of my students a personal and cultural connection to art. These connections will inspire and fuel their own art-making processes. I want my students to feel confident expressing themselves through art, so the art they make is both beautiful and meaningful. I hope students leave my class with a new appreciation for all things creative, and a curiosity for the arts. I hope they have a newfound joy in discovering art, and talking about art. Lastly, I hope they develop the ability to see the the world in a new way...with creative eyes.
