A Message from Mr. Preston

Greetings Mustang families!

Our Read-A-Thon is off to a fantastic start. In our first week, Shultz students and teachers have read more than 350,000 combined minutes, and we have raised over $22,000 so far for our school. All money raised will go directly to supporting our teachers, students, and classrooms. Thank you to our families who have made donations to support our school! 

Individual students and classes are working to earn special awards for how many minutes they read through Monday, February 10th. The chart below shows the incentives children are working for. Please note that required minutes are different for younger and upper grades. Throughout our school, our Mustangs are excited to read as much as they can to reach their goals.

Our families have likely heard that our school will be impacting by changes in our attendance zones in the 25-26 school year. Ginnings Elementary School will temporarily close at the end of the current school year to rebuild the campus, which is anticipated to reopen in August 2027. As a result, all Ginnings Elementary students will be temporarily rezoned to either Evers Park, Hodge, or Shultz Elementary School for the next two school years. More information about this rezoning and the rebuilding of Ginnings Elementary can be found at this link. 

Also, a portion of our Shultz attendance area in south Denton will be rezoned starting in the 25-26 school year to Sam Houston Elementary (W.S. Ryan Elementary for emergent bilingual students). You can visit this link to learn more about rezoning across our district. 

The new 25-26 Shultz Elementary attendance zone is in light green on the map below. 

To prepare for these changes, our school is already hard at work planning to welcome new students to our campus while supporting those who will be transitioning to Sam Houston. We are working closely with the district and other impacted schools to support these changes. In the coming weeks, I will be sharing more detailed information with our families, including ways our parents can help welcome our new families to the Mustang community. 

I will discuss these changes at our PTA General Meeting at 6:00 pm Thursday, February 27th, and I invite all Shultz parents to contact me directly with any questions. 

2024 Federal Report Cards have been published on the Texas Education Agency website. The report provides information regarding student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Student Readiness (STAAR) as well as additional federal accountability information. Finally, our kindergarten round-up will take place the evening of Tuesday, April 1st. If you will have a child starting kindergarten at our school in the fall, we invite your family to join us for a special parent meeting and opportunity to visit classrooms and meet our kindergarten teachers.

There is much to celebrate for our school! I want to take this opportunity to recognize our dedicated teachers for their amazing work supporting our children's learning needs each year. We are so blessed to have such caring and talented teachers and staff at Shultz.
