Use the Lightspeed AccessScan Chrome extension to check whether a page is accessible to students.
❓What does AccessScan do?
AccessScan lets you:
Check if a website or video is blocked or allowed for students.
See which parts of a webpage (like embedded tools or links) are restricted.
Test if a YouTube video will play for students, even if YouTube is blocked, by confirming whether it's included in SmartPlay.
❓How do I use it?
Click the AccessScan icon in your Chrome Extensions Toolbar (the blue Lightspeed Icon).
Enter a student’s email address (any one student).
Click Scan Page.
Review the results to see what’s allowed and what’s blocked.
❓Do I need special access?
Nope! The extension is automatically added to your Chrome browser.
❓What if I have a list of videos I want to check?
Our team can submit up to 1000 YouTube links at a time to Lightspeed to see if they’re part of SmartPlay. If not, we can request they be added. Just send the list our way — no need to request access to Lightspeed directly!
Ad Hoc and Custom are the available scheduling options for your classroom set up. Here is a quick video and resource that explains these! You can choose the type of schedule you want to configure using the tabs at the top of the Class Settings panel, just under the schedule header.
Custom Schedules: Define when classes begin and end. This allows Lightspeed Classroom to automatically apply web rules and check students in during those times.
How to Set a Custom Schedule:
Go to the Class Settings panel.
Select the Custom tab under Schedule options.
Click + Add Schedule to define specific days and times.
Click Save Class Settings when done.
Ad Hoc Schedules: Immediately start a class session and apply web rules for a set period of time.
How to Set an Ad Hoc Schedule:
Go to the Class Settings panel and select the Ad Hoc tab.
Choose a session duration (options range from 15 minutes to 2 hours).
Click Start to begin the session. Students will be automatically checked in, and web rules will apply.
In the Advanced Options section of Web Rules, you can enable Allow single sign-on (SSO). When this option is turned on, students can access approved CIPA-compliant education platforms—ClassLink—even if those sites are not on your active Allow List.
This feature is useful when:
Students need to log into educational platforms that require SSO.
You want to keep most of the internet restricted, but still allow access to secure, approved sign-in services.
Note: If this option is not enabled, students will only be able to access sites explicitly listed in your Allow List.
The best way to get the immediate help you need is by clicking the Request Help button on the top, right-hand side of your screen, once logged into Lightspeed Classroom.
From here, fill out the appropriate information (class details, student information, summary of the problem) and Lightspeed Classroom can reach out to you directly through their ticket platform.
As always, don't hesitate to email Digital Learning too at digitallearning@dentonisd.org.
🚩Please note: You can only submit a Help Request once every 24 hours.
There IS a way to view a single student in full screen, but the way to do it is non-obvious:
Click on any student to open the expanded side screen view
Right-click on the video to bring up the menu, and choose "Show all controls"
A previously hidden toolbar will now appear when you hover over the video, with an option to expand in the bottom right corner!
