March Activities 

Music in Our Schools

March is Music in Our Schools month.  The theme of Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®) 2024 is “I SEE M.E.”, with “M.E.” reflecting how we see ourselves in Music Education (M.E).  In celebration of Music in Our Schools, the library will be filled with opportunities to see yourself in music. And of course, because Libraries Rock


Music Mondays

Every Monday during the month of March the library will be hosting Music Mondays.  

What is it?

Music Mondays is a safe place to perform whether it's singing, playing, or spoken word.  It doesn't matter if you are an experienced performer or wanting to take the risk and perform for your first time.  Solo, duets, and groups may perform. 

When is it?  

Every Monday in March before school or during lunch in the library 

Diddley Bow

Learn how to create a 1 string guitar or diddley bow.  Under supervision, students will be working with tools (drills & saws) while utilizing problem-solving skills, reflective thinking, and creative expression.

Sign-up is required.   Must sign up by Friday, March 5th to participate in the Diddley Bow Makerspace as there are limited supplies available. Scan the QR code on the flier or sign up here.


The Makerspace area will be open before school           (7:45 - 8:45 AM) and during lunch on March 18-25 for students to create their diddley bow.

Open Mic - Register by March 22

Mic Check 1,2 1,2 testing. Open Mic is coming back!  Open Mic is an opportunity for anyone (students and staff) to showcase their talents whether it be singing, rapping, spoken word, solo performance, duets, or band with a live audience. 


Open Mic will be held on Thursday, March 28th all day in the upstairs library. Students interested in participating in Open Mic must register online or may stop by the library to register by March 22nd.

Valentine's Circuit Cards 

Light up someone's life by creating a free 

Valentine's Circuit Card 


Learn how to use electrical circuits on a card. A greeting card, copper tape, a coin cell battery, and a light-emitting diode (LED) will be used to make a greeting card light up. A handmade card may be designed to create a personalized Valentine's circuit card.  



New Year, New Skill 

The library will be hosting its first survival skills series for students. The survival skills series will help bridge gaps in knowledge and help students learn basic adult skills. The series will occur during lunch in January & February.  We have partnered with staff members Getting Paid: Job search, application & resume (Tracy Kennedy) and First Aid at School  (Nurse Weddle & Nurse Line) to teach some of the series. 


Dining Etiquette will be taught by the librarians. Participants will learn the basic skills and then will have the opportunity to implement them in an actual dining experience on February 14th. Students must attend the basic skills in order to attend the dining experience. 




New Year, New Goal 

New Year’s resolutions have been around for over 4,000 years. According to a Forbes Health /One Poll survey, the average resolution lasts 3.74 months.  So why not choose one word, or an “affirmation word”, to motivate and inspire you for the year and wear it on your wrist as a reminder? Or create a vision board to display your goals for the year?

Nov. / Dec. Activities 

International Games Week Nov. 6- 9

Play popular board and video games while building problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, and communication skills.  Must have a library lunch pass to attend.  Students must provide their ID to check out games to play while in the library.

I Spy Bags - CookChildrens' Nov. 13 -16

CookChildrens' Hospital uses “I Spy” bags as a distraction tool for children who are anxious about a doctor’s appointment or procedure. These bags help the child focus on something other than the anxiety they feel.   

Do you like to volunteer?

Do you want to create I Spy Bags for CookChildrens' Hospital?

Then come join the library as we make DHS Makerspace I Spy Bags. 

*All I Spy Bags will be donated to the Cook Children's Hospital.*

Open Mic will be held Friday, Dec.1st from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM in the library.

Makers Club

Join us to design and create! 

Use the Glowforge (laser printer), 3D printers, etc.

We teach you how to use the equipment, you come up with your own designs.

This FREE activity will take place before school and during all lunches. Come learn to make a mum ring for Homecoming!

September 19th - Denton Public Library

Join us on September 19 during lunches in the Commons to meet the teen librarian from the Denton Public Library! She will discuss some of their library programming, Books2Go, and have treats /prizes!

September 19th - Worry Dolls

Join us on September 19 during all lunches to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month in the library! We will be making Worry Dolls.

Visit the library to learn how to make your own Worry Dolls. Worry dolls (also called trouble dolls; in Spanish, Muñeca quitapena) are small, hand-made dolls that originate from Guatemala. According to legend, you are intended to tell your worries to the Worry Dolls, then place them under your pillow before going to bed. By morning the dolls are said to gift the wisdom and knowledge to eliminate your worries.
