Kindergarten is all about taking those first steps into music and learning the comparatives! In Kindergarten, we learn:

• Steady Beat vs Rhythm

• Fast and Slow

• Loud and Quiet

• High and Low

• Long and Short

Sometimes, our kinder groups are ready for more advanced concepts, and we learn quarter notes and eighth notes!

In 1st Grade, we take the first steps into literacy, moving away from only iconic representation and reading music just like the big musicians! In 1st Grade we learn:

• Quarter Notes and Eighth Notes

• Sol and Mi

• Quarter Rest

• La

In 2nd Grade, we practice what we learned in 1st grade and add a few more advanced concepts! In 2nd Grade, we learn:

• Do

• Half Note/Tie

• Re

• Barline, Measure, Repeat Sign

• We also start singing in 2-Part Harmony this year. 

Third grade is SO FUN! We start getting into more advanced concepts and push our rhythmic an tonal learning! Students this year also have the opportunity to audition to join the campus choir after school!

In 3rd Grade, we learn:

• Sixteenth Notes

• High Do

• Sixteenth and Eighth Note combinations

Fourth Grade is such a wonderful adventure! All students may choose to join Choir this year without auditioning. In 4th Grade, we learn:

• Syncopation (Eighth-quarter-eighth)

• Low Sol and Low La

• Absolute Pitch on the Staff

Our 5th graders also have the opportunity to audition for the Denton ISD 5th Grade Honor Choir! In 5th Grade, we learn:

• Fa and Ti (Full Diatonic Scale)

• Ledger Lines with Absolute Names

• Major and Minor

• How to play the ukulele and read tabs!
