In 1934 Frank Lloyd Wright took a trip to Bear Run, this is where falling water would eventually be built, He was inspired by Pottsville Sandstone which is close by. He took inspiration from the appearance of sandstone or rock that is unique for landscapes. Two years later in 1936 the construction of Fallingwater began. Lots of local labourers and craftsmen were hired and the materials were obtained from Kaufmanns' land. Falling water was eventually completed in 1937 and is now a air bnb but because of Covid regulations is now a self-guided experience.
You cannot actually see the waterfall from the house although it is located right beneath the house, you can only hear the sound of water.
There is a Lego version of Fallingwater available with over 800 Lego pieces. This Lego set is discontinued but you can still buy them. It is categorized under the Architecture theme for Legos.
Falling water was also on the cover of Time magazine in January 1938.
Albert Einstein has stayed in the guest house after being invited and being in the area. He was in a conference in order to discuss the protection of Jews in Nazi Germany.
