IT’S TIME FOR OUR ANNUAL COMAL READS!

What is Comal Reads?

Comal Reads is a district wide family reading project. We are asking all students and their families across the district to participate in an all-school, all-family book club by reading Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures by Kate DiCamillo.

Sounds interesting…What do I need to do?

We aim to build a community of readers at Indian Springs. Since we know that reading aloud at home is a valuable way to help your child become a better reader, each family will be encouraged to read a few chapters each night from January 8-February 2. 

I like it!…But why should I read with my kids at home? Especially if they can read on their own?

Research shows that reading for pleasure is linked to intellectual progress in reading, vocabulary, and math, so we want to celebrate the fun of reading a great book. Plus, reading together as a family offers an amazing opportunity for interaction and bonding while building important literacy skills. 

We’re ready! Where can I get my copy of Flora and Ulysses?

You  can purchase copies of Flora and Ulysses through online retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Nobel, Walmart, etc.

The important thing is to get your copy of Flora and Ulysses by January 8th so you can begin reading that evening.
