Information for Prospective PAL Leaders
PAL leaders work around 10 to 11 hours each week:
Attend the class section(s) you are placed in = 3 to 4 hours
Plan for your sessions = around 3 hours
Hold two PAL sessions = 3 hours
Meet with instructor and attend regular PAL training meetings
First semester leaders must also enroll in a 1 credit hour, pass/fail training course. The course meets one day per week for 50 minutes. Attendance in the course and any time spent on homework for the course are not paid since you are enrolled in the course for course credit and will be receiving a grade.
Pay starts at $10.50 per hour with multiple opportunities for raises.
Mandatory training activities will take place during the first week of each semester. Typical dates are the Monday and Tuesday before classes start. Specific dates and times will be communicated with new hires.
Applicant Qualifications
Multiple factors are considered when evaluating an application. We recognize that cumulative GPA does not always tell the full story of an individual's learning experience and growth. All interested students are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must:
have a desire to serve others and give back to the Clemson community
be successful in the course(s) they wish to support (this can be a class you are currently taking!)
have completed the course(s) they wish to support at Clemson
have effective learning and study habits to share with peers
request a recommendation form be completed by a course instructor, advisor, or other professional at Clemson who can speak to your content knowledge in at least one of the subjects you want to support (no letter is needed, instead see the recommendation form linked above)
be in good academic standing
If you are interested but not sure whether PAL is a good fit for you or your schedule, there is a "no strings attached" interview process where you can ask questions and get all of the information about being a PAL leader. Applicants will then have time to consider the role and decide if they would still like to be considered for the opportunity before hearing the PAL coordinator's decision.
