Technology

Class overview

Welcome to Technology class! We will engage in several technological concepts this trimester. Even though I have units for this course, you drive the units! You do not have to have a lot of technology experience but what you will need is a positive attitude, open mind, and the willingness to listen and collaborate with class members. This is a trimester class so that you can also take Spanish and Music during your first year in middle school.

Unit 1

Digital Literacy: how we safely and responsibly use technology

Unit 2

Coding: introduction or review of coding

unit 3

Robotics: use your coding skills to program your built Lego robot

Expectations: Be curious, respect yourself and others,

give your best effort in everything we do, participate in

class discussions and activities, and have fun!

Participation can look different for everyone! There are

many ways to be part of the learning!

Materials Needed: A positive attitude, Chromebook, and writing utensils.

Teamwork builds flexible brains

We learn best when we:

1) Respect each other, the materials, and the environment

2) Use positive language

3) Work together, solve problems, and ask questions

4) Follow community agreements, including CMS phone policy and Chromebooks put away when not being used as a tool

How's my student doing?

I use Google Classroom to communicate feedback on daily work/practice and assessments. This is where you should go to see how your student is doing in this class. Skyward is a static reporting system whereas Google is iterative and a better indicator of how your student is doing in class.

CMS Grade reporting

Standard Achievement Reporting Policy:

We use Standard based grading at our school. Standards based grading focuses on growth in student learning instead of just points. Currently the way we assign students grades is reported through Skyward showing students beginning proficiency and revised as students progress in that standard. We use Google Classroom to track assignments and should be the first place you review for assignment completion.

Standard Reporting Guide

4- DIS Distinguished: exceeds grade level standard

3-PRO Proficient: meets grade level standard

2-APP Approaching: needs assistance to meet grade level standard

1-BEG Beginning: work is below grade level standard

NE No evidence: this can mean the work was not submitted or not done in class

About me

I have been teaching for many years but this is my second year at CMS. This community has been very welcoming and I enjoy the challenge of teaching new things and seeing how students learn. Hablo Español.
