MAY NEWS
DEAR PARENTS and STUDENTS,
- FIELD TRIP - Wednesday, 5/1 - bring a disposable sack lunch and a drink. We plan on leaving by 9:30 or when the buses arrive. Parent volunteers can meet us at Ft. Zumwalt Park Flag Pole at about 9:45-10:00 or you can meet us at the front of the school building. We will be at recess until the buses arrive and will not be in classrooms.
- SAVE THE DATE: MAP TESTING
ELA Testing - May 7, 8 at 8:40
MATH Testing - May 13, 14, 16 at 8:40
On testing days we prepare our workspace by getting out the supplies we need for testing right after the bell. Please arrive well-rested and on time each day. The students will get a MAP checklist for their home binder. It looks similar to what is below. Before testing we will review testing protocols, use the restroom, and get all needed tech and testing tools out.
All students should have a working pair of headphones!
THE NIGHT BEFORE MAP…
I have my outfit & shoes laid out.
My book bag is zipped and ready to go.
Mu lunch is planned out.
I am going to bed early.
“ Early to bed and early to rise makes a man (kid) healthy, wealthy, and wise.” - Benjamin Franklin
THE MORNING OF MAP...
I ate a healthy breakfast.
My parents wished me luck (the day of or the night before).
I arrived at school on time to get seated, settled and started.
I am ready to do my best on the test!
😎The Third-Grade Teachers 😎
ELA: This month our daily read-aloud is Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo. Both are perfect texts for us to review all our reading standards for the year. We will watch parts of the movies to help us visualize the story's characters and to compare characters and plots. Please let me know by 5/5 if you would rather your child do an alternate activity when we watch the movie clips of both books.
Book bags: IF IT IS NOT A SCHOOL SUPPLY IT SHOULD NOT BE AT SCHOOL. PLEASE EMPTY BACKPACKS OF TOYS, JOURNALS, AND OTHER ITEMS - MANY THANKS!
Summer Birthdays: Students who have summer birthdays will get their birthday bags before school is out. If students want to bring in a nonfood item to pass out they can anytime in May.
Parents: Thank you for your help, support, and donations throughout the year. Your dedication and assistance made this year a success. I wish you and your child the best in 4th grade. 😊
Summer is almost here! There are many sites the students have been introduced to this year to keep their minds sharp on those rainy or too-hot summer days. All summer you have access to all your accounts through Classlink: RAZ Kids, Epic, Prodigy, and many more.
Summer Log: Complete 30 activities for 30 minutes to keep your mind sharp this summer. Summer writing calendars have been added to the Free Write Notebooks for some summer writing ideas. If you write over the summer just once a week, your hand will thank you when you return to school in the fall. It will also keep the cursive letters fresh in your head. Return your summer log to me when school resumes for your favorite snack, drink, or prize.
Summer Access: You have online access to your accounts/programs over the summer to continue practicing your reading and math skills. Follow your login page in the clear sleeve of your binder and check out this link from our tech department if you are having trouble logging in at home. When you complete all your level-up activities in RAZ Kids it will automatically assign you the next level of books for your bookshelf. I check this site periodically too and will move you up if your quiz scores are high.
