South Side High School never fails to show their love for sports. When winter arrives, Girls Basketball arrives with it. Their season has begun with several new arrivals from every grade. Freshmen are taking the opportunity to shoot their shot, and have lifted the team immensely.

“It’s good, it’s different from middle school. Yeah I like the team, it’s different because I’ve never been on a team that gets together and bonds,” Reneasha Autry (9) said.

Varsity has had six games so far, and won one of them. Junior Varsity has played one less game, and have won one out of their five. They’re growing each day, and always improving through practice.

“It’s fun, and it's different because we have a coach who cares and has been there for a long time. With a lot of new people she makes sure everyone is equal. We’re getting better everyday as a team,” Aries Odom (10) said.

Girls basketball practices everyday, and their practices usually last two hours. Coach Juanita Goodwell has been with the team for a number of years, and Assistant Coach Sierra Miranda has been coaching for five years.

“We’re really young and inexperienced, which is beneficial that they’re having to play so many full minutes at such a young age and I think it will contribute to our future success,” Miranda said.

The season is just picking up, but with the constant practices, and games all over, they’re exceeding day by day. Make sure to cheer on your Archers, and show up for Girls Basketball this season.
