Strength training is an exercise form that induces muscle contraction against an external resistance  to improve muscular strength and fitness by exercising a specific muscle or muscle group.

Coach Markely teaches new workouts every week for students to grow stronger and have strength in them to be healthy and always stay active in any sports or workout at the gym and home.

Strength training involves the contraction of muscles against an external force resistance during exercise. It also enhances your quality of life and improves your ability to do everyday activities. Building strength helps contribute to better balance and may reduce your risk of falls.

“I like having strength training because I’m not able to workout as much as I want to. Working out at school is way better to help me mentally for me to be calm and build enough strength in me,” Ehler Moo Hlta (12) said.

Students may want to strength train themselves to improve sports performance, appearance, treat or prevent injuries. This will help them manage or lose weight, and it can increase your metabolism to help them burn more calories.

“Strength is a result of the hardships one endures. To attain what others are unable to, one must undertake actions that others are unwilling to,” Coach Markley said.

Coach Markley supports students that want to get into shape and build muscle, but not over do it too much for them to cause pain or injuries from their lower and upper body strength. He knows that exercising is very important for others to stay active and keeping up with their health in order for them to always stay hydrated, eat healthy, and any warm-ups that you can do either at home or gym is the key concept.

“Warming up enhances the heart rate, therefore your blood flow because it is important for activating and primes the connections between your nerves and muscles, which improves the efficiency of movement,” Markley said.

Warm-ups are very important before you start to workout because it can be passive, gentle, active, and strenuous. Almost everyone that will perform at a higher level and avoid injury, but scientific proof of these claims is slim.

“I like some of the warm-ups that we do that are helpful for us to stretch very well and to loosen up our muscles beginning to workout,” Hlta said.

Everyday throughout the week, the students will prepare for stretching by doing the warm-ups to help loosen the muscles and tendons to get some good stretches in and increase flexibility and range of motion during the workout.
