During the first week of May, you may have noticed that our Archer teachers were not rocking their usual looks. All around the globe, May is the key time to show our appreciation for the teachers and staff of our schools. Even during this time, our influential educators wanted to do something kind for us.

As the school year comes to an end, finals arrive, and students get stressed. With the sneak-up of graduation, the moments of fun and excitement start to diminish, and the panic builds up.

“Well, the administrators found out that it was Staff Appreciation Week all over, and we just came up with ideas. Ms. Adkins was the main organizer,” says Assistant Principal Ms. April Castator.

The teachers came together with the urge to add a pop of fun for students during this time crunch, and what better way to do it, other than poking some fun?

“It was the most laughter I ever saw in The Commons, it’s just a boost in the happiness and morale,” said Castator.

Several staff members had a blast each day dressing up as a certain theme. This brings all the teachers together, while they celebrate their difficult jobs and hard work, and also allows the students to interact. The students had the task of guessing each theme everyday, slowly pressing information out of their classes and investigating the hilarious outfits.

“The themes each day were to: dress in your favorite college, dress like you’re on vacation, sports jersey day, and then dress like a student. Friday was to dress in green and white, alongside a staff carry in. It happened to be Cinco de Mayo, so we all had nachos,” added Castator.

Throughout the entire week, all of the kids engaged with adults in the hallways taking photos, laughing, and sparking conversations. This was the most effective way for everyone at South Side to let loose and relax during the final stretch.
