From May 2 to May 10, South Side had their end of school year art show. Students in art and ceramics classes display their own pieces in J112.

“Any student from any art class is allowed to showcase their work in the art show,” said Ceramics teacher Jacob Piazza. This encourages students to be creative no matter what they make.

The remainder of art classes such as drawing showcased many pictures based on perspective and emotion.

This drawing shows two different perspectives based on the angle you look at it. On the left side you see a colorful patch of sunflowers with a butterfly. (photo by Jacob Marbach (12))

On the right side the patch is dead accompanied with a scarecrow. (photo by Jacob Marbach (12))

The art show is open to anyone in South Side who would like to view it. Every art class visits it and along with teacher approval, you can go in any class. It is advised not to touch the artwork, there will be a staff member in the room at all times to ensure nothing happens.

“The gallery lets you admire different people’s art styles. I was thinking there should be a vote to see who has the best art piece,” said Colton Holliness (9).

In prior years, the end of the year art show was located in the Greeley room. It was switched to J112 this year because the Greely room was occupied for other events or tests. This change of rooms gave the art show less space to put artwork.

The change of locations made less people view the gallery. Each art class and only a few other classes visited it, but since it's the first year of the gallery being in J112, it will only get more popular.

The change of rooms were non-beneficiary when it came to size and presentation. Roughly over half of the pieces presented in the Greeley wouldn’t be able to fit in the new art room.

“I think we should use both the Greeley room and J112 if we can. There are pros in the Greeley room, like space, but there is also poor lighting,” said Piazza.

Piazza makes important decisions about the art gallery and has empathy with where people's art should be displayed. from now on, South Sides art show will be down in J-hall.
