The South Side Lady Archers are stepping up to the plate as the teams are practicing and preparing for game. The softball coach, Sierra Miranda, and her players, are practicing six days a week from 4:45 to 6:45 at the South Side Annex.

They start practice with warming up. During these warmups they run to the foul poles and back. The girls always hype each other up and are good teammates. The official season started March 6th and had their first game against Blackford April 12th.

“During our season, we don’t have as many opportunities to get in the weight room as a team, especially once we start playing games. Us coaches try to build in conditioning via fun competitions amongst the players. Sometimes we include softball specific motions such as hitting and throwing, but other times it is straight cardio via running bases or doing drills such as the star drill,” Ms. Miranda said.

At practices, they practice batting, catching, defense, and offense to get better for upcoming games.

Mack High (10), is in her second year of doing softball. She had explained that last year's season didn’t have as many people as there are this year. She also explained how much more they are dedicated to bettering themselves this year.

“We definitely have a lot more new girls this year, and it's very nice to have them. We love gaining people for our team, and last year we only had one new girl, which was me. We're also just really dedicated to bettering ourselves and our team, we're more into practice and I think definitely there's more effort, motivation, passion behind it,” High said.

During the softball season last year, they had won 7 games including 3 conference games. Which was much better than the season before.

The season has just begun. With new people, there will be lots of opportunities ahead for the Lady Archers.
