South Side High School’s spring play “Clue” occurred on March 3rd and 4th at 7:30 and is based off of the comedic Clue movie. The plot was to figure out who did the killing.

“The play is based off of the movie, and the movie was based off of the board game,” said Clairanna Council (9). This shows that the play is not only in synchronicity with the movie, but along with the board game.

The play takes around one hour and has six main characters, Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Doctor Orchid, Reverend Green, Mrs. Peacock, and Professor Plum.

The objective of the play is to figure out who is the killer, what weapon they used, and where it was done, the first player to choose the correct items from the case file wins.

David Love-Barngrover (10) is lying dead after the lights were turned back on, leaving the audience puzzled as to who did the killing.

The play was meant to be funny and mysterious, leading the audience to use context clues to wonder who the killer was. They used the lights to surprise the audience with who was murdered by a moment of black followed by a dead body on the floor when the lights came back on.

“I believe the play is very accurate to the movie, like every play we set the script up from the relevance of the movie and condense it into a well fit play,” Maverick Rowe (12) said. Rowe and the other actors followed the script and acting based on the movie, and simplified it for a best fit play.

There were around six backstage members, two people working on the spotlights, and two people who were in charge of the sound queues.

The killer was revealed at the end of the play, Reverend Green was behind it all. Everyone was blinded by Professor Plum and Colonel Mustard's accusations on Doctor Orchid.

There were some hidden doors, and a double sided painting that lead to different rooms in the house. these were used for some of the killings, for example, the "who did it?" poster in the library was used as a trapdoor for the killer.

The set was complex with lots of different layers of rooms, making it a playground for the suspected killer. In general, the theatre team put together an organized and simplified play that matched up well with the movie.
