South Side High School is a public non-religious school, but that doesn’t mean you cannot express your faith with your peers after school. Four female students got together with Principal Zachary Harl last Thursday morning at 8:30am to discuss the idea of creating a bible study club.

"I was told that he wasn't super ready for this type of group at school,, but when we talked to him he was very supportive, open minded, and eager to get it started!"  Delilah Marion (12) said.

With Christian based organizations like City Life and Canvas Community now working with South Side, the religious students have had more opportunities to express their faith here at school.

“I think having a fellowship club at school is important because it brings the love of Jesus right to students. It welcomes everyone with open arms.” Marion (12) said. "If you don't feel comfortable praying that is totally fine!"

Getting to know their community is there main goal in the frost few meetings. They plan on doing a scripture reading video series called "Alpha", and hope to participate in some sort of community service down the line.

“Ms. Lynda, our sponsor, found me at church and asked me if I wanted to be a part of a bible study,” Elianna Jacobson (11) said.

ELL English teacher Ms.Lynda Baconguis is the club sponsor and attends the City Church in Fort Wayne at the old Taylor University building on E. Rudisill Blvd, along with Jacobson and Marion.

“I'm most looking forward to growing a community, getting to know each other and worship,” Jacobson (11) said.

Mr.Harl approved it being a club, and would be South Side’s First Religious organization since the Fellowship of Christian Athletes that was here in the early 2000’s. The club plans to meet on Tuesday and Thursdays in Ms. Baconguis starting after the 2023 spring break.
